I absolutely agree that the major problem are loans provided by banks. The even greater problem is that people got used to taking them, so they continue taking them. Especially the introduction of the first time homebuyer credit seems to me really unhappy. The government spends a huge amount of money and the people will tend to take another loans to buy a new house. Outside of a campaign, the people you work with at a newspaper are the closest thing you can get to family.<BR/><BR/>But a taxpayer-backed guarantee that allows uncompetitive businesses to stay afloat, when they otherwise can't get funds, can only be defined as a bailout. <BR/><BR/>Politicians force taxpayers to fund the kind of loan the Journal Register can't get from a legitimate bank, and award the Journal Register tax credits and other favorable treatments.<BR/><BR/>Oddly enough, that's the exact kind of loose lending policy that sank the mortgage industry and was blasted as irresponsible by the very kind of politicians now demanding the newspaper industry.
