A Massachusetts family yesterday somehow got lost in a novelty corn maze, even through there are signs everywhere telling you how to get out. 

They called 911 begging to have rescue teams come find them, instead of the thing that calls itself the father in charge of the family A) following the signs, B) walking between the stalks or C) just pushing the stalks aside. 

“We came in during the day time and we got completely lost and we have no idea where we are,” the caller told the 911 operator.  “I’m really scared. It’s really dark and we’ve got a 3-week-old baby with us.”

It's a corn field, not Alcatraz.

"Police quickly alerted farm management of the family’s situation, and sent a rescue team, K-9 unit and all, to the farm," ABC News reports.

It took the police just five minutes to find them, 25 feet from the exit, and escort them out.

"(Farm owner Bob) Connor said the family is the first this year to get stuck in the maze, which features maps and signs along the way to help people find their way," ABC News reports.

At least the farm owner isn't an incompetent eunuch.

“We are going to put a mark in the area where the family got lost,” Connor told “GMA.”  “We’re going to say ‘This is the famous point where the family got lost.’”

A man walks into a novelty corn maze, can't follow signs, doesn't even think to walk between the rows or just push the stalks aside and calls 911 in a panic? 

This country is in a severe masculinity crisis.

43% of independents 'strongly disapprove' of Obama

The Washington Post's Chris Cillizza reports:

Four in 10 Americans “strongly” disapprove of how President Obama is handling the job of president in the new Washington Post-ABC News poll, the highest that number has risen during his time in office and a sign of the hardening opposition to him as he seeks a second term...

...Forty-three percent of independents — a group the president spent the better part of the last year courting — strongly disapprove of the job he is doing...

...43 percent of self-identified Democrats said they “strongly” approve of the job Obama is doing, while 74 percent of Republicans strongly disapprove. That’s a 31-point disparity for you non-math majors out there.

The poll data provide empirical evidence for the recent switch in Obama’s rhetoric from a focus on compromise (aimed at independents) to one that accentuates the differences between his approach and the one advocated by Republicans (aimed at Democrats).

Obama changes law so his donors, CA Dems get Solyndra $ before taxpayers

President Barack Obama raised eyebrows when he exempted the now-bankrupt and FBI-raided Solyndra solar experiment from a federal law requiring taxpayers be placed ahead of private creditors when a federally-funded corporation goes bankrupt.

Now we may be finding out why.

"Out of the hundreds of out-of-work employees, vendors, investors and other creditors in the bankruptcy of government-backed solar-panel maker Solyndra LLC, one name stands out: the California Democratic Party...One investor, Argonaut Private Equity, is tied to George Kaiser, Oklahoma billionaire and fundraiser for Mr. Obama’s 2008 campaign," The Washington Times reports this morning.

Solyndra will not reveal how much cash the California Democrat Party may be receiving.  The Party claims to know nothing about the deal.

Solyndra received over a half-billion dollars of taxpayer money from the Obama administration after the Bush administration refused to give the cash. 

"Just two years ago, the company received federal loan guarantees of more than $500 million, money it burned through but hasn’t repaid. Because of a subsequent loan restructuring, taxpayers won’t be repaid before the private investors who poured $75 million into the company earlier this year as it tried to stay afloat," the Times reports.

Obama made Solyndra the centerpiece of his failed "green jobs" political campaign, and the partnership may have paid off handsomely. “This announcement today is part of the unprecedented investment this administration is making in renewable energy and exactly what the Recovery Act is all about," the Obama administration announced when making the handout.

While taxpayers are stuck with a half-billion dollars in lost cash while Obama donors and California Democrats are first in line for repayment, federally-funded Solyndra donated $7,500.00 to the California Democrat Party and $1,000.00 to three California Assembly Democrat candidates.

"Solyndra employees have donated more than $20,000 to federal lawmakers over the years, most of it going to Democrats. A breakdown of donations by the Center for Responsive Politics shows 72 percent went to Democrats, 27 percent to Republicans and 1 percent to Libertarian candidates," the Times reports.

When questioned how the Obama-connected firm managed to get a half-billion dollars in taxpayer money the company's predicted bankruptcy prevented it from getting most private loans, Solyndra executives exercised their right to avoid implicating themselves in a crime.

"In the wake of the company’s collapse and subsequent raid by the FBI this month, Solyndra’s top two executives, citing their Fifth Amendment rights [against implicating themselves in a criminal matter,] refused to testify last week before the House Energy and Commerce investigations subcommittee, which has been looking at the Solyndra loan deal for months," the Times reports.

Democrat claims Obama plan creates jobs by sending groceries into space

65% of voters support the REINS Act

I’ve been telling you for months about our REINS Act, which has been introduced in the House and Senate.

As you recall, the REINS Act requires any proposed federal regulation costing more than $100 million to be voted on by Congress and signed by the President before it can take effect.

The prospect of further restoring Congress as the only constitutionally-authorized lawmaking body, and making regulations transparent and accountable, has whipped Gang Green into a frothing rage.

Well, I’ve just received word from Speaker Boehner’s office he intends to begin moving the REINS Act this month.

That means you and I must get active, because Barack Obama is going to pull every stunt and twist every arm to prevent a vote in the House.

You see, a new poll released this morning by the internationally reputable Tarrance Group finds overwhelming majorities of voters agree with you and me about the need for our REINS Act and 65 percent support the REINS Act.

Not many bills can boast they have the support of 65 percent of voters.

The poll finds:

> Three quarters (74%) of voters throughout the country believe that businesses and consumers are over-regulated.”

> More than two thirds (70%) believe increasing the number of regulations on American businesses will result in more jobs moving overseas.”

> A majority (56%) agrees that “more government intervention and regulation to the process of overseeing business means you have less accountability because everyone assumes someone else is in charge”, while only 38% agree more that additional regulation leads to more accountability because of the increased number involved in oversight.”

> One of the highest points of agreement in the survey is fact that 73% concur that “every time the federal government mandates a new regulation on America’s large and small business, the prices of American made good and services like gasoline and food go up.”

> Voters do not want a regulatory process that takes away legislative duties reserved for Congress…This strong support for Congressional involvement is consistent across partisan groups, including among Democrats (67%), Republicans (65%) and Independents (64%).”

> Voters are simply unaware that Congress is not in a lead position with regard to regulation, as a majority say that Congress (52%) creates regulations.

And most importantly:

> (T)here is a strong desire for checks and balances in creating regulations, as two thirds (65%) favor requiring regulations be approved by Congress and the President before they are enforced.

65 percent of voters agree with American Tradition Partnership.

But that just means Gang Green will fight even harder to stop us.

Democrats to force parents to provide babysitters with paid assistants, paid vacations

Democrats are steamrolling a bill through the California Assembly to force families to provide babysitters with "a substitute caregiver every two hours to cover rest and meal breaks, in addition to workers' compensation coverage, overtime pay, and a meticulously calculated timecard/paycheck."

The bill has already passed the Assembly and is quickly moving through the Senate with blanket support from the Democrat members that control both houses of the Legislature – and without the support of a single Republican member. Assuming the bill will easily clear its last couple of legislative hurdles, AB 889 will soon be on its way to the Governor's desk.

Under AB 889, household “employers” (aka “parents”) who hire a babysitter on a Friday night will be legally obligated to pay at least minimum wage to any sitter over the age of 18 (unless it is a family member), provide a substitute caregiver every two hours to cover rest and meal breaks, in addition to workers' compensation coverage, overtime pay, and a meticulously calculated timecard/paycheck.

Failure to abide by any of these provisions may result in a legal cause of action against the employer including cumulative penalties, attorneys' fees, legal costs and expenses associated with hiring expert witnesses, an unprecedented measure of legal recourse provided no other class of workers – from agricultural laborers to garment manufacturers. (On the bright side, language requiring an hour of paid vacation time for every 30 hours worked was amended out of the bill in the Senate.)

The result would be families would simply put their children in the care of heavily unionized child and adult care institutions, meaning more cash in the bank accounts of Democrat campaigns.

How longer will Californians allow Democrats to use them as piggy banks Democrats can take a hammer to whenever union bosses want more money?

Penn. dumps destructive ‘green’ programs as job losses, utility bills skyrocket

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports:

(Excerpted) The Corbett administration is de-emphasizing renewable energy and energy conservation, eliminating programs created by previous Democratic and Republican administrations as it focuses on natural gas energy from booming Marcellus Shale.
Quietly but systematically, the administration has all but shut down the state Department of Environmental Protection’s Office of Energy and Technology Deployment — the state’s primary energy office — and removed directors and reassigned staff in the Office of Energy Management in the Department of General Services and the Governor’s Green Government Council.

It has also forbidden state executive agencies from signing contracts that support clean energy supply…

…The administration’s prohibition against sustainable and alternative energy purchases reverses a policy that by the beginning of this year, had the state buying 50 percent of its electricity from renewable sources, according to PennFuture, and made it “a national leader in the development of the clean energy economy.”…

…Pennsylvania is not the only state reassessing or reducing sustainable energy, energy conservation and renewables portfolio standards policy. Governors and legislators have voiced similar concerns in Connecticut, Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Oklahoma and Wisconsin, according to the Pew Research Center.

“Even Tom Corbett, who is still dedicated to the job-killing radical environmentalist agenda, silently admits ‘green jobs’ are a hoax and Expensive Energy Mandates kill jobs,” said American Tradition Partnership Executive Director Donald Ferguson.  “Even Democrat-controlled Pennsylvania can no longer suffer the crippling burden of the low-jobs, high-cost Gang Green agenda.”

Obama swings EPA club in latest assault on jobs, affordable energy

The Wall Street Journal‘s editorial board writes Tuesday morning:

(Excerpted)…The EPA is currently pushing an unprecedented rewrite of air-pollution rules in an attempt to shut down a large portion of the coal-fired power fleet. Though these regulations are among the most expensive in the agency’s history, none were demanded by the late Pelosi Congress. They’re all the result of purely bureaucratic discretion under the Clean Air Act, last revised in 1990.

As it happens, those 1990 amendments contain an overlooked proviso that would let Mr. Obama overrule EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson’s agenda. With an executive order, he could exempt all power plants “from compliance with any standard or limitation” for two years, or even longer using rolling two-year periods. All he has to declare is “that the technology to implement such standard is not available and that it is in the national security interests of the United States to do so.”

Both criteria are easily met. Most important, the EPA’s regulatory cascade is a clear and present danger to the reliability and stability of the U.S. power system and grid. The spree affects plants that provide 40% of U.S. baseload capacity in the U.S., and almost half of U.S. net generation. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, or FERC, which is charged with ensuring the integrity of the power supply, reported this month in a letter to the Senate that 81 gigawatts of generating capacity is “very likely” or “likely” to be subtracted by 2018 amid coal plant retirements and downgrades.

That’s about 8% of all U.S. generating capacity. Merely losing 56 gigawatts—a midrange scenario in line with FERC and industry estimates—is the equivalent of wiping out all power generation for Florida and Mississippi.

In practice, this will mean blackouts and rolling brownouts, as well as spiking rates for consumers. If a foreign power or terrorists wiped out 8% of U.S. capacity, such as through a cyber attack, it would rightly be considered an act of war. The EPA is in effect undermining the national security concept of “critical infrastructure”—assets essential to the functioning of society and the economy that Mr. Obama has an obligation to protect.
He would also be well within the law to declare that the EPA’s rules are technologically infeasible. Later this year, for example, the EPA will release regulations requiring utilities to further limit mercury and other hazardous pollutants. Full compliance will be required by 2015, merely 36 months after the final rule is public, and plants that can’t be upgraded in time will be required to shut down.

“Obama will not issue such an order because his stated goal is to ‘bankrupt’ the coal industry.  His avowed purpose, through this regulatory gut-punch and his “cap and tax” National Energy Tax scheme, is to eliminate affordable energy,” said American Tradition Partnership Executive Director Donald Ferguson.

“Radical environmentalists have repeatedly shouted their assertion the United States are too prosperous and too powerful, and eliminating our access to jobs and affordable energy is an act of social and environmental ‘justice.’  After decades of palling around with radical green leftists like Van Jones, Obama is pushing this EPA rule a the enforcement mechanism for his radical liberal agenda,” said Ferguson.

“Obama’s latest EPA assault is so radical and economically devastating even Nancy Pelosi didn’t want her name on it.  They’ve farmed this economic out to their nameless political assassins in the EPA bureaucracy.  This is precisely why we must have a recorded vote on the REINS Act.  The REINS Act requires any proposed federal regulation with an economic impact greater than $100 million to be openly voted upon by both houses of Congress and signed into law by the President.  Predictably, environmentalists are violently opposed this simple reform to restore clean, transparent rule-making,” said Ferguson.
