The Obama White House is considering an all-out election year assault on the Tea Party movement, The New York Times reports this morning.
While the Times casts this as a new strategy, the White House has been on the warpath against private citizens since last summer, attacking average Americans who disagree with him in press conferences and speeches.
But will it work?
No.
For one, as the Times points out, "the party’s House and Senate campaign committees are resistant, not wanting to do anything that smacks of nationalizing the midterm elections when high unemployment and the drop in Mr. Obama’s popularity have made the climate so hostile to Democrats. Endangered Congressional candidates want any available money to go to their localized campaigns."
And there's also the simple matter that when it comes to the Tea Party vs. Obama, Americans back the Tea Party. Fifty-two percent of Americans say their views are closer to Sarah Palin's than Obama. Sixty-one percent of likely voters say they want ObamaCare repealed.
Any move by Obama to cast the midterm elections as a choice between the Tea Parties and himself will likely only alienate himself further and diminish his approval ratings further. Americans, while they may not always agree with it, recognize the Tea Party is a genuine grassroots movement and any attack on it by a White House political machine only cements the public perception of Obama as breaking his promise to usher in a citizen-driven agenda and eschew "politics as usual."

The liberal establishment still doesn't get it
From Susan Estrich's guest column in today's Washington Examiner:
Supporting the Second Amendment and the right to life are "nutty?" Perhaps to the architect of the Dukakis campaign, but not to most Americans.
From Gallup:
"A record-low 44% of Americans say that the laws covering the sale of firearms should be made more strict..." (Oct. 9, 2009)
"Slightly more Americans call themselves "pro-life" than "pro-choice," 47% vs. 45%, according to a May 3-6 Gallup poll...While the two-percentage-point gap in current abortion views is not significant, it represents the third consecutive time Gallup has found more Americans taking the pro-life than pro-choice position on this measure since May 2009, suggesting a real change in public opinion." (May 14, 2010)
Liberals are not interested in public opinion because they view the public as their intellectual inferiors, incapable of self-governance and therefore burdening the morally and intellectually superor liberal with the responsibility of making decisons for them.
And that's where you get the view that the right to self-defense and the protection of defenseless humans is "nutty," when in fact it's the mainstream view. It's the liberal's view of themselves as the superman, with a duty to control others, that's "nutty."
http://DonnyFerguson.blogspot.com
"by reaching out to those who might disagree with "establishment" Republican positions on such issues as gun control and abortion (which are indeed nutty to a lot of people), the movement not only generates enthusiasm, but also has the potential for greater inclusiveness."

Dems unveil a tax "cut" that raises some taxes, cuts no one's
How desperate are Democrats? They're now claiming a sudden 180-degree decision to not raise a specific tax on the middle class is the "Obama tax cut for the middle class."
Except no one is getting a tax cut. It's just that a select group of people won't be hit with a specific tax hike.
Follow that? Democrats announced a plan to raise taxes across the board. Americans revolted. Democrats backed off and decided to raise taxes only for some people, which a majority of Americans still oppose. With their poll numbers plunging, they're now claiming their decision to only raise some taxes is a tax "cut."
The kind that leaves some people with higher taxes, others with the same taxes and no one with lower taxes.
That's like starting to steal $10 from the Salvation Army kettle, getting caught and then claiming that putting it back counts as a $10 contribution to the Salvation Army.

Democrat congresswoman leaves voicemail demanding lobbyist cash
"This leadership team will create the most honest, most open, and most ethical Congress in history." - Democrat Congresswoman and then-Speaker-Elect Nancy Pelosi
"I was, frankly, uh, uh, surprised to see that we don't have a record, so far as I can tell, of your having given to me despite my uh, long and deep uh, work. In fact, it's been my major work, uh, on the committee and sub-committee it's been essentially in your sector. I am, I'm simply candidly calling to ask for a contribution. As the senior member of the um, committee and a sub-committee chair, we have (chuckles) obligations to raise, uh funds." - Democrat Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton

When it comes to cooking the books, this administration is Julia Child
The Obama administration is ordering people who offer to work election day polling places are now being to file tax withholding forms, reports John Crudele of the New York Post, a move that could pad the nation's employment numbers by just 30,000 to 36,000 in New York City alone in the final monthly employment report before the November election.
"The Internal Revenue Service has determined that all poll workers are considered employees of the Board of Elections for tax purposes," said a Board memo dated Aug. 2 and signed by Rosanna Kostamoulas Rahmouni, coordinator of Election Day Operations, the Post reports. Poll workers get just $100 for training and $200 for their work.
The Obama administration similarly inflated plunging job numbers by classifying many census workers as temporary, which creates a new "job" every time their employment in the position was extended.

Another Democrat spin turns into a downward spiral
More bad news for Obama's efforts to enact the largest tax hike in history -- aimed directly at job creators.
A new Rasmussen Reports poll released this morning finds a majority of likely voters support tax cuts for "the wealthy" when asked "Suppose you had a choice between extending the Bush Administration tax cuts for all Americans or extending the Bush Administration tax cuts for everyone except the wealthy. Which would you prefer?"
Why is that significant? Because "the Bush Administration tax cuts for the wealthy" phrase used in Rasmussen's polling is exactly how Democrats are spinning the Obama tax hike in an effort to get majority opposition.

See a pattern?
Lisa Murkowski flirted with Cap and Tax and lost to an unknown. Alan Mollohan flirted with Cap and Tax and lost a Democrat primary. Mark Kirk voted for Cap and Tax, only got 58% against an unknown in his primary and is in a toss-up against a lousy Democrat candidate.
Now Mike Castle, who shouldn't even have to sweat a primary but voted for Cap and Tax, is down three to Christine O'Donnell in a new poll.

What a difference a Democrat in office makes
"Unwilling to bide his time until President Bush packs up his things and leaves town, Obama simply took control of economic policy on Nov. 23, when he unveiled an economic team noted for its brains and experience and asked it to come up with a massive economic-stimulus plan...Obama no longer has the luxury of waiting...Unemployment has risen to 6.5%..."
- TIME magazine, Nov. 26, 2008
"With the local unemployment rate above 12% and rising again this summer, about a third of the employer display tables stood empty...Some voters bucked at the incongruity, repeatedly telling pollsters that even programs that have clearly helped the economy, like the $787 billion stimulus, did no such thing."
- TIME magazine, Sept. 2, 2010 (The article never mentions national unemployment has risen to 9.6 percent, a 50 percent increase of the rate they labeled a disaster when a Republican was in the White House.)

The stimulus scam comes to Alexandria
In an odd example of hybrids creating colossal waste, the city of Alexandria will spend $2.4 million on new "hybrid" buses made to look like train trolleys, paid for by money largely borrowed from China through Barack Obama's "stimulus" program.
And the current trollies clearly need to be replaced, seeing as they were bought only two years ago.
So in other words, Barack Obama spent $2.4 million to create a palmful of one-shot temporary jobs replacing practically new buses -- and stuck your children with the interest bill. That's eerily reminescent of socialist-run France, where new highways were constantly torn out and replaced, often using shovels and outdated manual labor, to create "jobs."
Update: The hideously expensive King Street trolley program was sold as "part of the City’s continuing efforts to manage congestion and reduce mobile emissions by encouraging residents, commuters, workers, and visitors to choose travel options outside of driving alone."
But it only runs the length of King Street, which is largely a pedestrian route and a popular walking route. With no attractions or businesses along King Street with parking lots, there are virtually no automobile trips that begin and end on King Street.

If liberals are so vocal that paying more taxes makes you a better citizen, then why not allocate votes based on your tax liability? If taxation is a mark of patriotism and good citizenship the top one percent of income earners, who earn 22.8% of the nation's income but pay 40.4% of all federal individual income taxes (while relieving almost 43% of the population of any tax liability) should be allowed to cast 40.4% of the votes for president and Congress.

Obama criticizes Bush spending, deficits. Calls for even more of both.
Near the end of what was supposed to be an address on Iraq tonight, Barack Obama made a pitch for even bigger spending and intrusive government.
So, Obama insinuates that George W. Bush slashed back "investment" in welfare spending, leaving him with no choice to but drastically increase spending to play catch-up.
With Americans of all political stripes outraged over Obama's policies of out-of-control spending and uncontrolled, unchecked government power, does this rationalization for even more statism pass the smell test?
Not even close. Another Obama misrepresentation.
"Entitlement spending has reached a record 14 percent of GDP...Other spending categories that have grown rapidly since 2000 include: anti-poverty programs (89 percent faster than inflation), K–12 education (219 percent), veterans spending (107 percent), and Medicare (81 percent)." - The Heritage Foundation, Brian Riedl, June 1, 2010, "Federal Spending by the Numbers 2010"
And as for Obama criticizing Bush for the former president's reckless deficit spending?
Obama's first fiscal year deficit will be larger than all of Bush's deficits combined.

"Unfortunately, over the last decade, we have not done what is necessary to shore up the foundation of our own prosperity. We have spent over a trillion dollars at war, often financed by borrowing from overseas. This, in turn, has short-changed investments in our own people, and contributed to record deficits. For too long, we have put off tough decisions on everything from our manufacturing base to our energy policy to education reform. As a result, too many middle class families find themselves working harder for less, while our nation's long-term competitiveness is put at risk."

Obama sics bureaucracy on 23,000 Gulf jobs
From the Monday, Aug. 30 Wall Street Journal (Page A4)
Despite the fact shallow-water rigs have had no spills and a stellar safety record, radical green activists have targeted them -- and the jobs they provide -- for extinction. The elimination of offshore energy exploration would not only send a shattering new ripple of unemployment through an economy already broken by radical green activism, but would send gasoline prices even higher.
Under legislation sought by Western Tradition Partnership, Washington bureaucrats would no longer have the unchecked power to simply make up their own regulations.

The [Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement] has issued only three new permits to start wells in shallow water since the April 20 explosion of the Deepwater Horizon rig, according to the agency's website. The agency issued three to six permits a week prior to the accident, industry officials say.
Louisiana's lieutenant governor, Scott Angelle, who has participated in talks with Mr. Bromwich's agency, said the government was effectively shutting down shallow-water drilling.
"Someone is slow-walking this deal," Mr. Angelle said, referring to shallow-water permits.
The Obama administration says that there is no moratorium on shallow-water drilling...

UN probe: ‘Little evidence’ for ‘man-made global warming’ claims
London’s Daily Express reports this morning on what Western Tradition Partnership has been telling Americans for three years — the “green” agenda is based on an anti-scientific hoax.
The probe into the UN climate panel comes months after leaked e-mails revealed much of the “man-made global warming” activist community’s political agenda is based on claims scientists admit were falsified and the result of “tricks.”
Why would radical greens lie about mythological “man-made global warming?” Former U.S. Senator Tim Wirth (Democrat-Colorado) offers one reason:
http://DonnyFerguson.blogspot.com
Cross-posted at http://www.westerntradition.org
The world’s leading climate change body has been accused of losing credibility after a damning report into its research practices.
A high-level inquiry into the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change found there was “little evidence” for its claims about global warming.
It also said the panel had emphasised the negative impacts of climate change and made “substantive findings” based on little proof.
The review by the InterAcademy Council (IAC) was launched after the IPCC’s hugely embarrassing 2007 benchmark climate change report, which contained exaggerated and false claims that Himalayan glaciers could melt by 2035.
The panel was forced to admit its key claim in support of global warming was lifted from a 1999 magazine article. The report was based on an interview with a little-known Indian scientist who has since said his views were “speculation” and not backed by research…
…Among the blunders in the 2007 report were claims that 55 per cent of the Netherlands was below sea level when the figure is 26 per cent.
It also claimed that water supplies for between 75 million and 250 million people in Africa will be at risk by 2020 due to climate change, but the real range is between 90 and 220 million.
The claim that glaciers would melt by 2035 was also rejected.

Why would radical greens lie about mythological “man-made global warming?” Former U.S. Senator Tim Wirth (Democrat-Colorado) offers one reason:
“What we’ve got to do in energy conservation is try to ride the global warming issue. Even if the theory of global warming is wrong, to have approached global warming as if it is real means energy conservation, so we will be doing the right thing anyway in terms of economic policy and environmental policy.”WTP will continue to fight efforts by radical green-allied politicians to impose a national energy tax on Americans — one based on this admittedly falsified activist “research” – during the lame duck session of Congress.

Senate GOP about to get a little more constitutional
Tim Carney, writing in today's Washington Examiner:
All I have to say is...bwaa ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.
http://DonnyFerguson.blogspot.com
...But Joe Miller, the former judge and Army veteran who appears to have beaten (Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski) in the primary, pending counting of all absentee ballots, is of a different stripe. Miller is not merely conservative, he's unyielding, supremely self-confident, and self-reliant. He will come to Washington seeing the whole town and its customs -- quite possibly including collegiality and tradition of the Senate -- as the enemy.
It's the same story in the Utah Senate seat...
...Bennett's replacement -- former gubernatorial aide Mike Lee -- promises to be something beyond just a "balky Republican senator." Lee's stump speech sounds like a lecture on the Constitution, and how nearly everything Washington does is outside of its legitimate authority. He takes pretty seriously the oath of office to defend the Constitution, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him filibuster a harmless Republican measure that isn't explicitly authorized by Article I, Section 8...
...Put Miller and Lee in the same chamber, and the legislative calendar could back up worse than the Washington Beltway at rush hour. One Republican operative, comparing these future senators with the upper chamber's current gadflies, said Lee and Miller will make Jim DeMint and Tom Coburn look like lapdogs.
If Miller and Lee set the tone of the incoming freshman class, that could ensure that Colorado's Ken Buck, Nevada's Sharron Angle, and Kentucky's Rand Paul -- if they win -- never fully assimilate to the Old Boys (and Girls) Club.
All I have to say is...bwaa ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.

Gallup: GOP generic ballot lead grows to 10 percent
Aug. 30 release from the Gallup organization:
And that's among registered voters. When you narrow the sample down to likely voters, the lead almost certainly grows even larger.
The ten-point lead is twice the size of the previous-largest ever margins, five point leads in June 2002 and July 1994.
Republicans gained eight House and two Senate seats in 2002, defying the trend of the president's party losing seats in the midterm elections. They captured 54 House and eight Senate seats in 1994, winning control of both chambers for the first time since 1954.

This is how liberals debate
From U.S. News and World Report's Paul Bedard:
Having worked at several conservative non-profits, I can tell you explicit death and bomb threats can be a near-daily occurance. When you're dealing with people who view Americans as nothing more than livestock that need to be herded and cared for by the state, they view any deviance from their views as an attack on the state -- one that must be neutralized by force, if necessary, for your own good.

One of Washington's principal supporters of the Tea Party movement, former GOP Majority Leader Dick Armey's FreedomWorks, has been receiving death threats and profanity-laced phone calls as it gets involved in the fall elections. The number and intensity have reached such heights that the organization is leaving its downtown location near the FBI and moving to a high-security building near the U.S. Capitol...
...FreedomWorks provided some of the recordings of the threatening calls to Whispers and they include physical threats and profanity aimed at the group, Tea Party spokesmen and even conservative talkers. "You guys better watch it," says one caller. "Now, we are going to destroy and obliterate Rush [Limbaugh] and Sean Hannity," said another. "Those two guys are dead."

Obama's drill ban helps lines Soros' pockets

The Obama administration predicts his ban on deep-sea energy development will kill 23,000 jobs, but all is not lost. It's predicted to be a financial windfall for Brazil, where a certain controversial foreign investor has made a near-billion dollar investment in their deep-sea energy reserves.
Manhattan Institute senior fellow Robert Bryce, writing in today's Washington Examiner:
As long as the Obama administration continues its moratorium on drilling in the deepwater in the Gulf of Mexico, Petrobras, the Brazilian national oil company, will continue to thrive...And by "foreign investors" I mean "George Soros," the Daddy Warbucks of the liberal movement whose billions laid the groundwork for the election of Barack Obama.
...Here’s the punch line: thanks to the moratorium in the Gulf, Petrobras will likely be able to get its hands on yet more deepwater offshore drilling rigs, at cheaper rates, than it could have prior to the Macondo blowout...
...The Brazilians are eager for rigs because their drilling programs have uncovered enormous reserves. In 2007, the company announced that its new offshore Tupi field may hold up to 8 billion barrels of oil equivalent. The field is the world’s second-largest oil discovery in the last 20 years.
Since then, Petrobras has been announcing new offshore discoveries on a regular basis. Within five years, the company hopes to double its oil production, to some 4 million barrels per day, an astounding amount of growth for a company that is already among the world’s biggest oil producers...
Bloomberg Financial News reports as of June 30, 2008, the radical left-wing Hungarian billionaire purchased an $811 million stake in Petrobras.
In just the last few years, Soros has funneled close to $100 million to various radical left-wing groups that support Obama and the radical environmentalist agenda.
After Soros purchased his Petrobras stock, Obama loaned the company $2 billion in taxpayer cash. Now, Obama's instituted an offshore energy ban the White House admits hurts 23,000 working families. The only person who seems to benefit is Soros.
If you still haven't put two and two together, Barack Obama is paying off a political debt by liquidating the Gulf Coast economy and mortgaging 23,000 American jobs.
